Pull-ups, Mortality and Grex

Meat Maintenance

So, after turning the living room into a little gym, I’ve been mixing things up a bit to get back into shape. Sure, I could get a gym membership, and I still might, but after the last 5 years or so I’ve got alot of physical rehab to do to even get to the point where I’d benefit from that without a high risk of injury. The grind took its toll, and I’m getting older.

It sounds bad, but it could have been alot worse. The last guy that got pulled through that same meat grinder, I’ll call him “E”, almost had a heart attack and had to change jobs after a few years in that same situation. That’s a high toll to pay for access to a dying, tiny facebook chat of two incompetent, malignant psychopaths used entirely for triangulation of talent and ego farming.

So, I started with curls, leg raises, the usual, but the power tower introduced pullups, so I’ve started building up to pullups. Now listen, I’m a dense-weighted, 250 pound dude at 6’2″. I am not made to do pullups. So I’m easing into it.

The first day, everything’s fine but didn’t do very many pullups.

The second day, I quickly hit failure. I said, “ok, let your body do the rest and come back”. The day after that, I wake up feeling like death. Was I having a heart attack or a stroke or something? The signs were there. Numb fist. Shooting headache — it felt like I’d been kicked by a horse. So I had to just take it easy for a day. Surprisingly no pain in my arms or shoulders.

Woke the up the next day feeling pretty good, headache gone, heart and vascular symptoms gone — and now the DOMS is setting in. That’s a good hurt, though, so, time to let it recover and go at it again. It’s progress.

Now here’s the cool part. My grip strength is already going insane. I have nerve damage in my left hand from a cubital tunnel injury a few years ago so keeping my grip up with those little hand squeezers is something I do anyway just to maintain but it’s really stayed about the same until recently. I had no idea pullups do that. I go to open a jar — boom! Effortless.

I respond well to exercise so I’m sure I’ll get used to it if I keep it up, but, I don’t want to ease into a routine too fast or I might injure myself. Your body lets you know. My concern is less about muscle injury than tendon/ligament problems, which I have developed a proneness to when I start exercising as the last few years have demonstrated.

I otherwise feel great, I should’ve started a long time ago. That right elbow seems like it’s becoming stable again. I fell off the back of a uhaul and broke it a few years back and it’s got some cartilage in the wrong places lol, so, I keep an eye on it when I try to do this.

Rex -> GREX

As to SILO GROUP stuff, I made a UI fronted for Rex, called GREX. I initially was going to push out a new pass on Dyad to prepare for a new Dark Horse image, but got tired of coupling json objects to each other and thought “this would be much faster if I just had a UI that did all of this”. So I cranked one out in C++ with the GTK4 libraries and now the Linux desktop has a graphical Rex configuration utility.

You can clone the repo at one of these locations:

https://github.com/SILO-GROUP/grex

https://git.silogroup.org/SILO-GROUP/grex

I’m not a UI guy, so I’m sure it has issues. I released it with an AGPL3 license so maybe someone will come along some time and fix some of them. In the meantime, it’s good enough to do a refresh of Dyad to start the process.

The DPM package manager is emerging as a priority item on the horizon as that nears completion. The core is built, but the modules are not complete. It has to happen to get Dark Horse Linux kicking at the next level as a distribution, and it has to be geared for automated package builds for this all to work together.

TETSUO

In terms of personal projects, Tetsuo is backsliding because I haven’t done a configuration pass since like November. I am not keen on doing it while this war with Iran is panning out so as not to train it on a manipulated market, but, it’s occurred to me very strongly that trying to do market forecasting with this idiot in office is going to be impossible. We just need to survive until 2028 before we can even have expectations of the stock market. It’s highly manipulated, it’s unstable, and it’s going to be deeply impacted by constant headline disruptions and political maneuvering. Fuck DJT and fuck his ego.

Maybe I can get some wins with a new correlation filter…

Everything else…

Work in progress. I’m enjoying the downtime.
