Moar Pull-ups, Mortar and Monitoring

Meat Maintenance is incremental. About once every couple hours I go into the living room gym and do two pull-ups. This is actually progress from when I first started as I couldn’t do one without worrying if I’d die, looking back at my last post.

Technically, I’m doing one pull-up and one chin-up, 10 dips, 10 curls in that specific order each time I go in. Then when it feels like that’s getting easy I’ll move to two each, and 20 and 20.

Dips are easy. I can do dips all day. Ok, not all day, but I can knock 10 out pretty well. The pullups are still a grind but as long as it continues to improve I’m happy with it.

I switched gears a bit because I got bored with the Dark Horse refresh. I burned out hard on the last release before this so I’m trying to avoid that. And it’s need-driven: Immediately after building out the public user registration portal for the SILO GROUP domain I walked away and came back ten days later to a down service. I need monitoring and alerting.

I’ve needed it for a while but none of the existing services really work very well, so, I’ve decided to build my own that does exactly what I want the way I want it, and it’ll let people register and set it up to work the way they want it too. Right now I’m calling the platform “Capramon”. It’ll have a goat for the logo.

It’s an interesting project. It’s got the main platform, a broker that agents talk to, and agents. The platform is configured to talk to the broker. The broker is agnostic of the platform and api-driven. The agents register to the broker and report what they believe is their region. The platform assigns status checks (port, ssl cert, remote service check) to agents through what the broker reports. The admins of the platform will configure static regions and then those regions would be coupled to reporting agents. This allows multi-region checks pretty well. Everything uses keepalives. It’s not terribly complex but I don’t get to work on stuff like this alot.

Winter 3.0 is over. We’ve moved that part of the year where it’s too hot to go without A/C during the day, thunder-storming during the evening, and too cold to go without heat during the night.

In terms of mortar, I’ve overspent. I’ll need to find a contract to keep cash flow right if I want to survive this crunch so I’ve amped up that effort and it’s frankly my main topic. I got flabby operating under weak standards so I’ve got a ton of refresh to do to get to where I was at before this last gig took everything over.

I’m starting to tone up though. Not enough. It’s progress.

Mind, body, spirit.
